Event Description
Guided walk led by John Walsh (a bach owner) takes 2½ hours and covers approximately 2kms. It features the volcanic background of Rangitoto, the different types of lava on the island, the botany, Māori history, DOC’s successful pest eradication program and introduction of several bird species, early work of inmates from Auckland Prison, the military history, and some of the “industries” that have been trialled on the island. Includes a visit to several of the historic baches.
