Gate entry 4, Carrington Road, Pt Chevalier
There are many interesting and historical aspects of the Unitec complex. The informative and historical walk and talk will include the many hidden and interesting aspects not seen from the road and will include the historical Mental asylum known as Oakley, Sanctuary gardens, an on-site Maori Marae, Auckland's only inland waterfall, historical buildings, outside carpentry student house building projects, Air force cadets training facilities, plus identification of many notable, native and exotic trees. We will also go inside the students’ atrium to look at the Unitec library and student support and service area. The circular walk will take about 2-3 hours and is mainly level. See it before the whole complex gets developed and transformed, for between 2000 to 4000 new houses and apartments are to be regenerated into Auckland's largest housing estate.
